Little Explorers

in all the books I loved as a child, they had an element in common that I was obsessed with, and that was the idea that as a child I could escape and leave and have an adventure of my own somewhere all by myself. No adults to look over my shoulder and tell me what to do, just the optimistic idea that I could find an adventure of my very own. Surviving on an island off California, or escaping whitewashing a fence in the front yard all had their appeal, but the idea of transportation to said adventure was minimal, and growing up in the outskirts of Los Angeles city life did not present many escape routes for me to plan. But imagine a world where you have the waterways of Newport Beach and beyond, and a sailboat at your ready, and you spent your entire summer learning how to get where you need to go. Can you even?

These three cousins have two boats between them, and are learning how to sail in their native shoes with breezy winds and slightly sunny skies at Newport Lido Yatch club where they teach the kids how to get the boats from storage, down to the water and sails up and ready all by themselves. I could not be more jealous of a childhood.
